Moving On From Ladakh

I just had the feeling that you cannot have enough of everything. If i tell you each and everything about ladakh then what will be the fun. After all, you need an inspiration to come here, don't you.
Well i guess the only thing that can inspire and motivate you to come here is that, whatever i have showed about Ladakh till now...Is not even a percent of what all is available here. ;)

You will simply say wow and wow and wow on every site you visit in Ladakh. Nearby is place called Leh. Hoping to make it there or else will go directly to much crowded but a lovely hills of Shimla.

Gorges Of Ladakh. No More Space

We had enough of space in the mountains. But when it comes to Gorges, Ladakh has ample amount of gorges that will really squeeze you out. It is believed to have some of the tightest of gorges.

You often get the feeling it's too tight for you to pass thru if you are a bit on the heavier side (fat)
But you really can make it. It' not easy but then, it's not tough.

Imagine having a wide open land just in front of you. Just plain and green. You run your eyes all along the levelled ground and woaaa we have a huge wall. White wall. A mountain covered with snow. With picturesque scenery. And Ladakh is full of such beautiful sceneries and such awesome surprises. You will really amazed by it's natural beauty.

Be careful of other shocking surprises though. You will find some wil asses too. And i must say, don't stand behind them! I repeat, don't stand behind them. Coz when they kick, it hurts really BAD.....Ouchhh!

Uh..By the way, this place is known as Kyang Pass. a famous pass in Ladakh. The word Kyang is somewhat related to wild asses. Don't remember exactly what it meant. Enjoy the pic.

Do You Need A Better Place To Meditate?

We recently talked about open spaces here in Ladakh.
Here is yet another example of an open space, but with a difference. It's huge, it's calm, lot of peace. I think that's the best ingredients for a place where you can relax your mind, enjoy the peace and probably meditate even. I am sure you had like to be the guy sitting there in this picture. What a lovely place to be in :)

Tilad Do, A Great Camp

There is enough of travelling places in here
But wherewill one stay??? It's not easy staying in Ladakh on cold snowy mountain
So a base camp has been setup on a lower side of the hill.
The place is called Tilad Do, the camp is just in the foot of two big mountains, actually a valley and it does receive a bit of sunlight. Good place to be in when you are not moving.

Snowy Snowy Mountain Walk

It's snowing. But no time for Christmas. This is not december or winter season. You can expect snowfalls on the higher ranges anytime of the year.

Frankly, i enjoy walking on the snow. But who knew it would take so long to reach a destination in this cold weather on this snowy snowy mountain.

However the picture looked great :)

The Beautiful Zanskar Range

It's such a beatiful feeling to stand at such a beautiful place and just keep admiring.

After having a look at these Zanskar range, one would wonder, what better can a paradise be.

The texture and colors of these mountains are so beautiful. So soothing to your eyes. I wish i could find a low cost airlines at that time. I could have seen everything there is of this amazing and ever so beautiful range.
I'll tell you what. This is a must visit place. Don't miss it. Don't ...;)

Starting With Heaven Called Ladakh

Ladakh is a land like no other. Bounded by two of the world's mightiest mountain ranges, the Great Himalaya and the Karakoram, it lies athwart two other, the Ladakh range and the Zanskar range.

In geological terms, this is a young land, formed only a few million years ago by the buckling and folding of the earth's crust as the Indian sub-continent pushed with irresistible force against the immovable mass of Asia. Its basic contours, uplifted by these unimaginable tectonic movements, have been modified over the millennia by the opposite process of erosion, sculpted into the form we see today by wind and water.

Yes, water! Today, a high -altitude desert, sheltered from the rain-bearing clouds of the Indian monsoon by the barrier of the Great Himalaya, Ladakh was once covered by an extensive lake system, the vestiges of which still exist on its south -east plateaux of Rupshu and Chushul - in drainage basins with evocative names like Tso-moriri, Tsokar, and grandest of all, Pangong-tso. Occasionally, some stray monsoon clouds do find their way over the Himalaya, and lately this seems to be happening with increasing frequency. But the main source of water remains the winter snowfall. Drass, Zanskar and the Suru Valley on the Himalaya's northern flank receive heavy snow in winter; this feeds the glaciers whose meltwater, carried down by streams, irrigates the fields in summer. For the rest of the region, the snow on the peaks is virtually the only source of water. As the crops grow, the villagers pray not for rain, but for sun to melt the glaciers and liberate their water. Usually their prayers are answered, for the skies are clear and the sun shines for over 300 days in the year.

Ladakh lies at altitudes ranging from about 9,000 feet (2750m) at Kargil to 25,170 feet (7,672m) at Saser Kangri in the Karakoram. Thus summer temperatures rarely exceed about 27 degree celcius in the shade, while in winter they may plummet to minus 20 degree celcius even in Leh. Surprisingly, though, the thin air makes the heat of the sun even more intense than at lower altitudes; it is said that only in Ladakh can a man sitting in the sun with his feet in the shade suffer from sunstroke and frostbite at the same time!
